Developed by Stanley Ward of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania, the
Slate Savers system was over 20 years in the making. The system is now
patented.
Presented with the problem of repairing a slate roof in
a manner which would virtually renew the life of the roof without having
to replace the original slate, Mr. Ward began experimenting with various
adhesives, caulks, and chemicals to find just the right formula that
could provide a permanent repair solution without compromising the beauty or
integrity of the original roof.
Field tested for over ten years, the final product, a
breathable, weatherproof polymer caulk that is able to expand and contract with
the changing seasons, is only part of an entire system designed to
extend the life of slate roofs for another 40 to 60 years. The
system adds a level of structural integrity to the slate roof which
permits debris removal or individual tile replacement with little effect
or damage to other tiles.
